Celtic Flamenco Concert

As soon as this show appeared on the calendar I was very intrigued. Celtic flamenco? How is this going to work out? Actually surprisingly well as I’m sure the packed room would agree! It was cool to see such an unexpected fusion come together.

The night saw many performers playing separately and together in various combinations. Fanny Ara brought on some fiery flamenco dancing accompanied by, yes, Celtic music. Daniel Torres was featured on flamenco guitar and the Puerto Rican cuatro.

Meli Rivera brought her beautiful voice and guitar playing to the stage performing her fusion of Celtic and Latin music, what she calls “Celtorican”. She was joined for a few songs by Valerie Orth on vocals and guitar.

The trio Triskela brought Celtic singing, drumming, the tin whistle, and of course harps! It was a truly impressive sight seeing these massive instruments on stage.

My 12 hour flight from Puerto Rico to be part of this show was totally worth it! I want to thank “La Pen~a” because it has given us their full support & the space on their legendary theatre to test this “experiment” – who happened to work better than we had expected! The fusion of styles and amazing performers are unique and we are already looking forward for the third part. Most likely we’ll do it again in 8 months. Thanks for supporting the arts! 🙂
